Community outside of religion

About Us

  • Founder, Haley grew up Christian and made the hard but ultimately freeing decision to leave the church at 21. Nine years later her parents wrote a book called “Parents of Prodigals” that detailed her spiritual journey from their perspective and puts a negative connotation on leaving religion - refering to those who do so as “prodigals.”

  • The Prodigal Son is a story in the Bible about a son who takes his father’s inheritance early and irresponsibly spends it, only to come back home in the end. This is a misrepresentation of Haley’s story and so many others who have left religion, so Prodigal Sunday was formed.

  • No one should feel ashamed for choosing a path of belief outside of religion. Prodigal Sunday was formed to empower and connect people who may be on a similar journey. Wearing the word Prodigal helped Haley claim her own story back and we hope it does the same for you.

  • We are by no means anti-religion. In fact, we are lucky to have many supporters who are religious. We simply want to create a safe space for those who are not. So if you find yourself relating to anything you’ve read, please reach out and connect with us on our socials! Prodigals have to stick together.
